Summer holiday – Ramboda Falls
After the tea factory and still on our way home, we stopped to enjoy the Ramboda Falls.
Hand held with elbows on the bridge parapet and good posture plus a 2 second self timer to stop movement from pressing the shutter, I had the best go I could at getting dreamy water but really needed a neutral density filter to allow an even longer exposure; these filters reduce the amount of light reaching the sensor and so permit long exposures even in bright daylight, but without changing colours or reducing detail. The monkey on the rock that gives scale helpfully sat still for me whilst it munched the banana that it had stolen from a bystander about 30 seconds previously!
I was able to get a little closer to the dreamy ideal in the photo below, taken when thicker cloud passed over. Even though still hand-held, this allowed me to get closer to the slow shutter speed I really wanted to use, without over exposing the image.
