Prague staycation

Monday and Tuesday 18th – 19th July 2022

For the second year running (tradition is emerging), a friend from my hometown and I took the Regio Jet train at 5.50 from Opava to Prague to have a staycation trip with a night stay in a hotel and cultural time to see a funny play at the summer theatre in Holesovice Exhibition Centre.

The weather was bliss with 32-38C, sometimes too much so we were sheltering in airconditioned shops and cafes. We walked 33000 steps on the first day and 16000 steps the second day. We spent the night in a small family hotel in Prague 5, but next time we must be closer to the centre.

We did some sightseeing around the city (Wenceslav’s square, Old Square, Kampa, Charles’s bridge, Petrin, visited Jeruselam’s Synagogue, Shopping centre Kotva, Shopping centre Palladium) and from the pictures you can see the blue sky and the sun shining on us. A delicious bowl with Asian twist was delicious, home made lemonades were must in that heat, a visit to the  toy shop Hamleys (why not?), and of course eating traditional Trdelnik bought in one of the many stalls run mostly by Russian workers; a sweet treat made from rolled dough that is wrapped around a stick, then grilled and topped with sugar and cinnamon mix.

A walk down memory lane was Holesovice Exhibition Centre –  I last having been probably 30 years ago with my parents – was bitter sweet as I no longer have my Daddy. Having a kind gentleman in the queue for coffee before the theatre buying us a glass of Prosecco while waiting was a lovely start to the evening of laughing and watching the funny/crazy/silly play from nearly the last row.

I met up with my best friend in the oldest part of Main Station in Prague for a quick coffee to catch up on our lives before boarding the train home at 16.18 for more than 5 hours journey – not anticipating broken A/C onboard or a delay of 65 mins.

I returned home at 22.20 finding Emilka poorly with most probably flu and hoping for a relaxing couple of days following two busy ones in Prague.

I hope I will be able to get my mummy to Prague for some cultural event and sightseeing too.
