New Year’s Day, 2023

Returning to our Christmas and New Year holiday, 1st January saw us up and about ready for a pair of trains from Nanu-Oya station close-by to Nuwara Eliya; ours just before 9am heading to Colombo Fort and one a few minutes later taking our friends on one of the most picturesque train rides there is, to Ella via the high altitude dairy pastures of Ambewela.

In the event, both trains were a little late and we were off on our journey just after 9:30am.  The trains clank along slowly and at times can be quite uncomfortable but it is worth it to see Sri Lanka from a different perspective.

We arrived in Colombo at 4:35pm and after a short ride home in a pair of tuk tuks, the holiday was over – reinforced by collecting our luggage from a silent coach outside our apartment instead of the noisily happy one of prior days.
