My Mum’s first outings in Colombo
Tuesday 22nd November 2021
Afternoon tea in my favourite hotel, the Shangri-La, to say farewell to one of our IEA members; she is leaving Sri Lanka after 3 years on the board as fundraising coordinator. My mummy loved the experience.

I took Mum for brunch to Barefoot, Steve’s favourite café and weekend place to chill from his many business trips over the years before we moved to live here. We went with my very good Filipino friend, Carol. Mum loved taking lunch outside and the craft shop that is the parent business. I love spending time with her.

Mum’s first two rides in a tuk tuk! She loved the natural air conditioning and said it was a fun ride, both to the shopping mall and to the Sugar Beach restaurant for dinner in the evening. You can watch a short video that Steve took from another tuk tuk, here.
She walked on the beach bare foot for the first time ever in her life and while washing her sandy feet with a bum washer in the toilet said: “In a million years, I never dreamed I will be doing this, but I have to be honest, it is amazing!”. I nearly cried at her statement and we are so happy to give her the opportunity.
Too much information, but by the way, she loves the bum washer and promised me that when she is redecorating her bathroom next year, she will definitely ask for one to be included in the planning!
