Perhaps doing grade one scrambling in flip flops or open toe sandals – and on occasions as the better option, bare feet – up Arugam Bay’s Elephant Rock with its drops to the sea wasn’t the wisest thing to do, but it focused the mind to take care and gave us a great vantage point to bid farewell to 2021 and watch it’s final sunset.  The ride there and back in three tuk tuks was a bit of fun as well, and the drivers (also in flip flops or open sandals!) kind and helpful to accompany us up and down the rock and show us the safest route.
