Façadism

 

Façadism is a practice where a building\’s façade is either designed separately from the rest of the building, or when only the facade of an original building remains when a new building is constructed behind or around it. It was only a few weeks ago that I read a BBC news article about this practice, and then today noticed an example of the latter meaning on my doorstep in Colombo.

Included below is the softly-lit evening view I was absorbing half an hour before sunset when I noticed what I describe.
