Emilka’s summer job
Weekends in August 2023
Emilka always knew she wanted to do a summer job to earn enough money to buy herself a new riding helmet and uniform for her new college, should she be accepted.
And she did! Helping at a stables 2 miles / 3km from our home, she not only earned a wage but had a lot of pleasure with her yard duties, bathing horses, and helping run off-site pony classes and jumping competitions, as well as babysitting dogs and children, cooking dinners and flower arranging for a summer fete! She used lots of her skills to fulfil what was needed and earned delightful accolades from the lady who engaged her. How much Emi was valued was demonstrated too in being invited to join family outings.
She had just enough money to cover her shopping, feeling really proud she was able to pay from her own pocket.
We are proud of you too, Emi. Very well done! Any job woth doing is hard work, but if you love what you are doing, it is half fun, too. We don’t have a photo of you at the stables, so here’s one of you having a reward; a ride out for curry with Daddy!
