Baby No 14 – Lukah
December 2020
I met mummy No 14 at 36 weeks into her easy first pregnancy. She learned about me from her doctor, who suggested she would benefit from a guide throughout her birth. She was the doctor who was giving my telephone number to other pregnant women in the waiting room.
A very strong headed woman, her late father taught her to believe in herself and to use meditation and visualization as a way of coping. She used exactly that when the D-Day came.
I had my PCR done in the afternoon the day before her labour was induced, stayed overnight in the hospital (everyone is joking now I book myself for a hospital staycation!) and was able to go to be with her at about 15.30, knowing my PCR result is negative. Baby girl was born within 3 hours of me being with her and she could not believe how amazingly she has done. Even the doctor couldn’t believe of the speed she birthed her first baby.
Within hours she was back in her postnatal room, mobile, feeding well and still in disbelief of her fortune becoming a family. I was very proud of her indeed. I was able to go home to my family, arriving just before midnight.
the baby was named Lukah in her second week of life, with the meaning “bringer of light”. She was readmitted to hospital with jaundice on day 3 and mummy fought hard for baby not to have any intervention apart from the UV lights (no IV drugs, no IV fluid). They were home within 2 days, and they are doing really well.
What a priceless present under the Christmas tree.
