With a preamble for the photographers this time.
The majority of my photography is done with a Canon G1X mk III, a superb feat of engineering that packs the functional capabilities of a full size body in to something nicely discrete (so usually with me), wonderfully tactile (physical controls falling intuitively to hand despite its diminutive size and with no need to remove the camera from the eye), and with a viewfinder to get ‘as one’ with the subject. Most of the remainder is done with Samsung S10 or iPhone 8 Plus smartphones.
Remarkable though the above devices are in their different ways, the laws of physics means they cannot beat a full frame sensor and professional optics – so there are occasions when I take a Canon 5D mk IV and a range of heavy Canon L series lenses out for a walk. Despite the heat and humidity, today was such a day given that at 4pm we were going to be at Beddagana Wetland Park, and with it the potential opportunity for some bird photography as well textures, lines and the late afternoon light to play with.
What we found was a beautiful oasis of tranquility and natural wetland – and somewhere that has been made superbly accessible thanks to a meandering boardwalk with platforms and towers from which to sit with one’s thoughts or watch for wildlife. No snakes of crocs to be seen today, but I did have a Moorhen potter past. We will certainly be back, both by ourselves as well as with visitors. I am sure I will be back one day too for when they open at 6:30am, catching pinky-soft morning light to contrast with the gold of the evening.
I hope that you enjoy the images.
