I remember setting a target to run the London Marathon by the time I am 50. I hate running.
I am going to be 50 soon so I had to do something.
To run a full marathon distance would be just insane for me, so I had to lower my expectations and instead have trained since January this year to do a triathlon; 200m swim, 18km bike, and a 2.5km run. It doesn’t seem much, but it was when you have to do all three one after the other.
Today was the day, when Stratford Upon Avon organised one, so I did it remotely in the roof top pool and in the gym on a bike and a treadmill.
With my back issues getting worse, the pain when I run, swim or cycle is sometimes unbearable, but I push through it. Incidentally, when I was doing the triathlon, I had no pain!
Using the pool and gym equipment in our apartment tower, I started just before 5pm at the same time as an actual triathlon of the same distance in Stratford-upon-Avon with the idea of finishing the running part with the privilege of watching the sunset. Misa and Emilka came to support me with timings and station changing for a smooth transition, setting my music and passing me water. So sweet.
I did it in 1 hour and 19 minutes and felt very proud of my achievements. I know it is not the best timing, but I hope with more training and stamina building, I will have better timing when I am doing it for real in October in the UK. Completely different surroundings and climate!
So with this event in my life, I started to celebrate my milestone birthday and actually, with each day now I celebrate my birthday everyday.
As a treat, to be nice to my battered and sore body, I went to my favourite hotel to have a full body massage – what a treat.
Happy early birthday to me!
