Afternoon tea
Friday 30th August 2019
As a special treat for us all, especially the kids having a very good first week at their new school, I though it would be lovely to have a treat on Friday after school and we booked a table at a beautiful sea side hotel, The Kingsbury, for 3pm.
I have done my research, asked around and this was the recommended one. What was great it was a buffet style, so you could eat whatever you fancied, which goes well with kids as they like the freedom of choice.
Steve was working from home as we were awaiting the delivery of our new TV and mahogany side board the owner agreed to purchase for us in the new tenancy contract (No luck for the second time – so let’s see what Monday brings!). This meant we could take a tuk tuk ride to school together to collect the children at 2:30pm; a car would have got stuck in the heavy traffic whereas we wove in and out and made it bang on time. They knew there was a treat for them this afternoon!
We carried on with the same tuk tuk to the hotel, going through places we have never been before but which Steve could explain from his visits. We arrived at 14.58, just in perfect time (Steve likes to be always on time) for the necessary security control with x-ray of bags, and then bingo! 3pm on the dot!
The Kingsbury is a a lovely old looking, but stylish hotel with marble, black tall leather chairs and a flower display of real roses out of this world, arranged in a large globe. Wow! Staff are immaculate in their uniforms, and when we saw the spread of the buffet we were in heaven! There is nothing like tiny English sandwiches of all kinds, some hot food with dips, savoury meet pancakes too and to the children’s surprise PIZZA. Big Smiles!
I took one of each thing from all of the possible plates to taste the lot, of course. I did the same with the sweets – why not? Live piano music playing in the corner, talking among ourselves, discussing past week at school, no computer or mobile phone – 100 minutes of pure pleasure. I wish you were there too. We had no food for the rest of the day and are going to bed still nicely full. You can never beat a nice Afternoon tea whatever the occasion, “just because” is a good excuse to me too.
