A celebratory weekend in memory of my daddy
Friday 27th – Sunday 29th January 2023
My lovely daddy Frantisek would have been celebrating his 80th birthday with us, had he not been taken too soon nearly 16 years ago. We could not have left the day without celebration, so with Steve on a business trip to the UK I booked two nights on a half board basis at the Blue Water Resort Hotel in Wadduwa, on the way to the South coast. Just 37km from Colombo, Daddy could enjoy the sea and the sun in spirit.
We checked in just in time for dinner and despite the DJ blasting his songs for the garden wedding reception that was going on – Sri Lanka either does no music or LOUD music – we managed to enjoy the evening. Especially eating meat, and meat and more meat as my daddy loved meat, and desserts! My mummy was a champion in that with 3 bowls at the same time.
We did nothing all Saturday apart from eating, drinking, sun lounging, swimming, beach walking, waves jumping, resting, sleeping – how strenuous. We finished the chilled day with a cocktail when the sun was going down. After dinner we played cards with Misa winning unbelievably all 5 rounds of Joker (a Czech game) with grandma unbelievably not scoring a single point at all!
Sunday was no different with chilling until 5pm when our taxi arrived. Only 55 mins drive home was much easier than nearly 2 hours in the traffic in the Friday rush hour, leaving behind a beautifully relaxed weekend by the beach, on the hotel’s green lawn under the palms, with the noise of the sea in the background.
What a way to celebrate what would have been a milestone for my daddy. A fine man who we think of and miss so much each day.
