Lamprais

I was lucky enough to experience a typical Sri Lakan dish today – Lamprais, or lump rice.
Delicious, even though it did not look very appetizing when I unwrapped the banana leaf it came in. I didn’t eat it with my hand as I should have done and which the locals and my husband swear then ensures that it tastes as it should.
Lamprais is a Sri Lankan dish that was introduced by the Burgher population when the country was under Dutch rule, the Burghers being an ethnic group of Dutch, Portuguese and Sri Lankan descent.
