Thunderbolts and lightning

This evening brought the most spectacular and intense thunderstorm that we have so far experienced – and there have been plenty!

Within minutes of a rich orange sunset that I could not photograph as I was in a conference call – such a shame as the reflections from glass fronted towers was amazing – a few flashes of lightning heralded the arrival of a storm.

The rain arrived like a fast-moving curtain and within no time was like a thick orange fog.  Just incredible – and then within seconds it was the black of night but still rain falling in epic proportions.  Next came CCCCRRRRRRACK (pause) BOOOOOM and the thunderbolts and lightning set it!  The latter was sheet lightning that lit up the city from darkness to daylight as you can see from the smartphone pictures I was able to take.  Not only was it a demonstration of the power of Mother Nature but it went on, and on, and on before disappearing as quickly as it came.
