Sinhalese Wedding
Having seen many Sinhalese wedding groups at hotels over the years and marvelled at the beautiful costumes, I had the great privilege of being invited to the wedding of two colleagues last Thursday, in so doing both enjoying the lovely occasion and learning a little about another aspect of Sri Lankan culture. I had learned about the Poruwa ceremony beforehand and therefore had a good idea of what to expect next but it was wonderful to experience first-hand and truly an honour to be invited.
As an invited guest I didn’t want to turn up with a couple of camera bodies and a stack of lenses so instead stuck with my rather more discrete travel camera and tiny remote flash for fill-in lighting, but hopefully the images above and below will give a good impression of what this lovely occasion was like.
