Laptop Repair

Soon after curfew started in mid-March, Rennie\’s laptop keyboard started behaving erratically.  Being confined to home and with all computer shops closed anyway there was nothing I could do about it apart from borrow a USB keyboard to keep the laptop usable.  At least it didn\’t need to be terribly portable, going no further than dining room table to sideboard and back according to meal times!

Once the curfew was over, keyboard replacement became more important as Rennie was then taking her laptop out and about, so rather more a luggable as she needed to take the USB keyboard too.  Time to find a replacement – but all laptops sold locally come with US keyboard configuration, which means that spares are sold likewise.

It was a case of Amazon UK to the rescue, with a replacement keyboard delivered to my parents\’ home and then posted on to us in Colombo – with fingers crossed both that it arrived before long and that it was the correct spare part; there are two versions, each with different ribbon cable arrangements.

Arrival took two weeks, so not too bad, and thankfully my research had paid off and I had purchased the correct version.  Fitting it yesterday was a golden opportunity for Misa to learn what laptop components look like, how they work, and to be in control of the screw driver.

Job done – and happy Mummy, especially as the new keyboard has a nice tactile keystroke that is markedly better than the original.
