Father’s day
Sunday 21st June 2020
Emilka couldn’t wait for Sunday morning to give her Daddu (the children’s nickname for Steve) hand made wrapping paper she had made containing a voucher to celebrate his first Father’s Day in Sri Lanka.
PLAN: 9 o’clock breakfast in bed (tea, omelette with cheese, toast with Marmite and a fruit salad). At 10 o’clock he had a pedicure in my favourite beauty salon, the first in his life which he really enjoyed, and his very cracked heels are now super soft and smooth. Since I was taking him there, it made sense to have a treatment too (it just had to be done!) so I had a full body massage – amazing, much needed pain in order to relax!
At 12 o’clock we had booked a table in the walled garden at his favourite Barefoot Cafe for afternoon jazz and although there was unfortunately no live music due to Covid restrictions, it was still a calming and pleasant occasion with gentle jazz played over loudspeakers instead to give a nice vibe. The weather is not so sunny these days, but still hot and humid so very sticky if not in a breeze or air conditioned room.
Steve had a little surprise, when our Turkish friends joined us for lunch. The boys had a few cold Lion Lagers of course, and we all had a delicious lunch (S – seafood quiche and salad, E – salad with smoked salmon, R – grilled fish with salad, M – full English breakfast – they brought this growing lad two plates and he wolfed the lot!). Once we got home, Steve chatted via Skype with his parents Susan and Philip to wish his daddy Happy Father’s day too and the pair of them a happy wedding anniversary for Tuesday, and in the evening we had a call with my mummy. We had a swim and then he and his friend had a “tea or coffee beer” (see previous post!) by the pool.
At the end of the day, Steve said that he had had one of the loveliest Father’s days he ever has ever enjoyed. Although the last one is always the best – just like with a nice cake straight from the oven! – it certainly was lovely. Emilka was proud for giving her Daddu a nice day, Misa tagging along because it is apparently a girl’s job to organize such things! Hmmm!
We hope that all amazing dads had a beautiful day too, no matter what they did.
