Without electricity

Thursday 11th June 2020

Each tower in our residential complex was without electricity from 9.30-13.30 today thanks to the annual service of the main electrical distribution panel. We had to come up with Plan B in order for Steve to be able to work and the children to have online school lessons.

Luckily the curfew was lifted and we had the opportunity to chose from numerous Colombo hotels.  In the morning we therefore took a taxi to the Shangri-La hotel to their Connect business centre and its hushed environment where everyone sits at a table or within a pod for their work or meetings. A very pleasant place be with a small cafe adjacent to it.  The children had breakfast of sausage roll, blueberry muffin and  berry juice, and for lunch all three had bacon, chicken, egg and salad club sandwiches with french fries. I had two cappuccinos and yogurt with oatmeal (brought from home in order to  count my calories!)

Everyone enjoyed it very much, the change of environment benefiting us all, especially Steve who relished the change of working extremely long hours in the functional but plain environment of the business centre in our tower.  We felt privileged to be there, and as a bonus Emilka and I headed to the adjoining One Galle Face mall for some shopping.  In those 3 months the kids grew before our eyes and especially Misa’s T-shirts and trousers are now too short for him.  They also needed new goggles for swimming as being in the pool everyday wears them out quickly.
