Easter without chocolate

Sunday 12.4 2020

Easter is associated with eggs, right?  Especially chocolate eggs.  This year, Easter was not about chocolate.  And why?

  1. In a tropical country, chocolate is hard to store.
  2. Only 6.1% of the Catholics living in Sri Lanka celebrate Easter so there is limited demand.
  3. Where can you get eggs or any kind of chocolate under curfew, when the only possible purchases come from a market truck that brings non perishable goods every few days?

So, instead of boxes of big delicious hollow chocolate eggs, Emilka was given a packet of her favourite Cheddar cheese, Misa a box of cereals  (honey and nut cornflakes) and Steve, a tube of Pringles!  This was all I could choose from the mentioned truck, but how grateful they were!

I was the lucky one though as Steve had spotted a bar of Lindt cherry dark chocolate amongst the limited things for sale, so bought it for me.  It’s been in the fridge ever since and feels alright through the cardboard wrapper but I’ll find out for sure when I open it.
