Food delivery

Sunday 29. 3 2020

Last week I placed three on line grocery orders for fruit and vegetables.  I paid two with my card and one for cash on delivery. No shopping has been delivered yet, I will patiently wait, nothing else I can do.

So far I have managed to order bread using my mobile telephone, and  shared it with another family. My freezer is full of bread now.

Lovely fresh fruit and vegetables were delivered last night (Saturday), which I ordered down in the lobby during the week. The management of this complex organised it’s delivery. I think they gained practise during the tragedy of the terrorist attacks last Easter. The delivery of the goods was led by the head of the Kollupitiya market, who I met when I shopped there on a few occasions.

I was glad I had some fresh produce, proudly unpacking it with Steve in the kitchen. My friends are also trying to order (via internet, via phone), but if they can’t order, then I will order for them and the two dads will come again and deliver to my friends.  On the WhatsApp group I see people are sharing tips and advice; we help each other to have something to put on our table to eat, especially for our children.

I can’t help to think of the poor people in the slums who have no money for anything and no means of getting any provisions in these uncertain times.  With the curfew we have to hope that the Government is ensuring that they are helped.
