Back in December, Rennie wrote of her visit to Colombo’s Kollupitiya market.  Yesterday brought my first visit during a shopping trip with her and Emi whilst Misa chilled at home; computer gaming with his friend James back in our UK village.

The market is housed in a grimy, unkempt and unloved building and the fusion of smells not exactly of roses, but the quality of fresh produce is fantastic and sold with pride and wonderful customer service.  Bursting with flavour and tactile to the touch, the vegetables we purchased had all been organically grown and picked just the day before in Nuwara Eliya in the Hill Country.

Raymond Blanc would approve.
