Colombo Skyline and Ranasinghe Premadasa International Cricket Stadium

On Friday I worked from Orion City IT Park and took some photos looking back towards the city. The sports facility to the right of two of the images is the Ranasinghe Premadasa International Cricket Stadium. The largest stadium in Sri Lanka with a capacity of 35,000 spectators it is best remembered for holding the world record for the highest Test total of 952 for 6 declared. This was by Sri Lanka against India in the late Nineties and included what was then a record partnership of 576.

I have historically not enjoyed cricket in the slightest, not spending the time to understand tactics and consequently finding it far too slow and tedious.  My Sri Lankan friends tell me though that a T20 or One Day International is quite literally a whole new ball game that I need to experience.  Having watched England prevail over NZ in the thriller that was the 2019 ODI final and then again in the T20 I have to agree, so will do my best to oblige.

I even have the tourists’ calendar to hand! 🙂
