Czech Christmas Cookies

From the end of November I have been busy making our traditional Czech Christmas cookies in my spare time. I also tried to make another Christmas Loaf.

If the dough is made from butter, I have to be very quick in making it and putting in the oven immediately, even if the air-conditioning is on. Most of the cookies have to be stored in the fridge, which means kids don’t graze on them. When the gingerbread cookies were waiting to be filled with jam, and just left on the kitchen surface, Misa ate nearly all of them – snaffling a handful each time he walked past!  The plaited Christmas loaf dough raises nicely, but for some reason doesn’t keep the shape and ends up like a shapeless loaf.

I prepared the first plate of cookies to feel Christmassy, but I think it is impossible to feel Christmassy in a tropical country. We will most likely not have a Christmas tree, as we will not be home for Christmas, but we will get some decoration around the apartment.  Yes, we are going on holiday to the East coast of the island, from 24.12 2019-1.1 2020, so I will not be cooking either Christmas dinner nor New years day dinner. Happy holidays!
