Avani Kalutara Resort (again!)

11.-12. November 2019

We took the opportunity of a bank holiday on Monday and a Poya day (full moon religious holiday) on Tuesday for another hotel break. Why not, it is so easy, and so near, only 30 miles / 50 km and 1.5 hours in a car.

I organised it and got a good rate as both a “returning customer” and a local resident.  Included was a free upgrade to a Deluxe Ocean Room and a fruit platter on arrival. Lovely.

We left at 9am on Monday in two cars and at 2pm were in the swimming pool already after a delicious buffet lunch.  Three mums and  six kids of similar age and the same school, plus Steve.  He joked he had a harem!

I had prepared some games for the kids – pebbles in the pool, water guns game, sandcastle competition, scavenger hunt and a treasure hunt. Girls against boys. At some point the competitive spirit got a little too much, but it was enjoyable by all to do something different during a hotel stay.

Food was delicious, fresh sea air, sunny weather (Misa burned his legs whilst on the beach without sun cream and suffered for a few days afterwards), hours of talking whilst Steve left us to it and caught up on some sleep.  We all relaxed.

When we were leaving, we all collectively said, that we could do with another night – next time! We came home all so tired from all that sun and doing nothing having a lovely memory to treasure for a long time.
