Misa and Emilka’s school exam results day
Wednesday, 17th August 2023
A week earlier than students in the UK, Misa and Emilka’s results from the IGSCEs they sat in Sri Lanka were published at 6am this morning.
At 5.54am I was woken up by Emi asking me to come to her computer to be with her when she logged on to the results system. She was so nervous, as she knew that she had to have at least a C from each of Maths, English and Biology as minimum requirements to be accepted to her dream Hartpury college to study Equine Management.
When she hit “log in”, an arrayof Cs appeared on the screen (Math, Biology, English language, English Literature, Geography, History), with one B from French and an E from Drama. She was so happy I wanted to bottle that feeling forever and we were so happy for her too. All her hard work paid off. She has more creative brain than analytical so these results were more than good enough for what she needed. Well done to her. Drama grades are fishy for all the students in her class, and the school is in communication with the Cambridge examining board to find out what has happened. We hope for rectification within 2-3 weeks. Emi had her dream place at Hartpury College confirmed as an unconditional offer as soon as we shared her grades.
Misa was in bed and casually got up at about 7am with a smile on his face. We all cramped around his laptop and when we saw an array of Bs (Math, Business Studies, English language, English literature, Geography, History) with A* from Geography and C from Physics we felt so proud of him – Especially as we know him as Mr. Last Minute Dot Com when it comes to preparation for anything! Those Bs could have been As with just a little more preparation during the school year and in revision, but as we will see, he still got where he wanted to go for his A levels.
What a relief, and well done to them both for passing all their subjects despite all the challenges they faced in the past, especially Covid and online school for nearly all of Year 9.
Congratulations to you Emi and Misa – you are carving your own path nicely and it is a joy to watch, walking beside you.
