Preparation for October triathlon

January to September 2023

As you know, I am preparing for a triathlon in October – on my own.

I was swimming in Sri Lanka (backstroke was the best due to my back issue), but I have found out that I am not allowed to do backstroke so I have to use breaststroke.  Cycling on the road is completely different to a stationary bike in the gym that I have used so far, as now I have to contend with traffic and the road surface rather than only concentrating on my pace.

Running with backache is not fun, as I am afraid to stride bigger and lift my feet/legs higher. Doing the 5km park Run each Saturday really helps to give me boost I can do it, and when Emi runs with me, it is even better.

What I have learned so far?

  • Never give up.  If you think you can’t, believe in yourself that you can
  • A person is capable of anything they set mind to it – be loyal to yourself
  • Visualise you are doing it with someone who you love or admire. Do it for them and for you too, knowing the end feeling of your achievement
