A legendary history teacher comes to tea

Tuesday 6th June 2023

We couldn’t leave Sri Lanka without showing our gratitude to Ms Judith, Misa’s and Emilka’s history teacher for the past 4 years, who they worship madly as she nurtured their love for history and understood them as  developing young adults.

I was baking for days to put on a spread of baked goodies (Czech and English) and savoury snacks to enjoy one fine afternoon with a fruit tea, to celebrate her as a person and to make her feel valued and appreciated.  Being surrounded by the onset of packing to relocate back to England didn’t spoil the occasion one bit.

With all the kids in her history lessons, we also organised an art activity to give to her as a keep-sake; a painted tree with the children’s named thumb prints as leaves.  She was apparently very touched when they presented it to her at school after an exam.

She has played a huge role in our children’s education and development as citizens of the world rather than residents of a small English village, as Steve has said. We will be forever thankful that she was part of our life and helped us to shape our children.
