The Multicultural Happy Bus
Saturday 24th December 2022
What is the best way to travel to the other side of Sri Lanka being together, have plenty of space for people and luggage, the comfort of your own space, your own guide and being able to stop anytime you like or feel?
A Happy Bus of course.
Family Boreham (Steve, Rennie, Misa and Emilka) and my mummy, family Finch (David, George and Anna) and family Lal (Rajeev, Pooja and Rajeev’s mummy) set off from Colombo at 8am on Christmas Eve to travel 278km to Trincomalee to spend Christmas together.
Everyone in this multicultural, multilingual and multinational bus with 11 totally different people, some who were complete strangers to each other to start with, plus the driver and a guide in another vehicle, had a very easy trip with comfort stops, laughing, talking, eating, sleeping and chatting all the way about everything and anything. A way of life and learning how to tolerate, how to understand, how to respect and how to care for each other in a safe environment.
We arrived at our destination at 15.30, full of expectations and excitement for a lovely Christmas holiday and were greeted by flower girls who invited us to make a wish. We will pray our wishes will come true.
