Christmas fundraising

Wednesday 31st November 2022

The whole year we were collecting toilet roll tubes for me to make advent calendars with the aim of raising as many funds for charities as possible. Goodies brough from Czech and England went in to each tube and for a few evenings I was a busy girl with a stapler, glue and papers. Five lucky children in Colombo got to enjoy these treats and I managed to raise 40,000 Rupees.

Sunday 4th December

The International Expat Association of which I have been a very active board member for over three years participated in the big International Christmas Charity Bazaar event to help raise much needed funds.  We sold the items that our craft group makes all year long. It was an overwhelming experience for all involved and we sold nearly all our items as they were reasonably priced. A long day from 8.30-16.00 on our feet was a success for sure.

Wednesday 7th December 2022

We participated in one of the embassy’s Christmas markets, selling the rest of our craft.  Having a plush toys lucky dip game and with my Christmas cookies (cukrovi) baked at home with my mummy and nicely packaged with Emi’s help, I alone raised 24000 Rupees.  People kept talking about our cukrovi for days afterwards as they were so delicious and just melted in the mouth.

Monday 12th December

The last fundraising event this year that I organised and participated in was an IEA World Cuisine Baking Session for 8 members, baking cukrovi. My mummy helped me too and we had a very lively and successful event. Members paid for the ingrediencies and the rest went to the charity. Another 7000 Rupees in the pot.

All in all, I raised 71000 Rupees on my own – pretty tiring I tell you, but a nice achievement and with lots of memories along the way.  This is our last Christmas in Sri Lanka and I feel I did IEA proud.  Next time it will be someone else’s turn.
