A farewell weekend for our Canadian friends
Friday 10th to Sunday 12th June 2022
We could not leave Sri Lanka for the school summer holiday without saying our good byes to my “coffee buddy” and dear friend Carol, her husband and their lovely children before they all leave for Jakarta in July. They live in the same apartment condominium where we originally lived and I had countless visits to her place during the 3 years I have known her, not to mention trips out for lunches and pampering whilst the kids were at physical school.
As the political and economical situation in Sri Lanka has been turbulent and we’ve had the backdrop of the pandemic like everyone, plans for a second weekend together had come to nothing – but finally we managed to reserve two villas in the luxury resort of Cape Weligama down on the South coast and only 3 hours away from Colombo; it was just perfect. One of the best staycations we’ve enjoyed in Sri Lanka with exquisite attention to details and delicious gastronomy.
A beautiful place, with private villa and swimming pool, our own butler and a stunning environment. Even the moon-shaped swimming pool open to all guests was like a private affair for us as there were so few people staying. Drink and lunch by the pool, afternoon scones and coffee, and a perfectly-timed gin evening for the adults where our own Mr. Gin (Steve) got to work behind the bar and produce delicious G&Ts of Tanqueray No. 10, Fever Tree tonic (3:1), black peppercorn infused ice cubes, curry leaf and Pomalo. What more could we wish for? A farewell cake courtesy of the resort, Sunday lunch by the villa and a bottle of fine wine was just the perfect way to end our weekend.
What a memorable stay and lovely note on which to say farewell to this lovely family with their sweet and adorable three kids until we meet again. Carol left me her hardwood floor cleaning bucket and mop, so I will be thinking of her every time I use it!
