Elakanda Bridge

It\’s not often Daddy is in front of the lens so I will take this opportunity!

On our way home from our weekend at Riva Villa we took the coastal road instead of whizzing down the dual carriageway.  Just before reaching Colombo we came across a pedestrian suspension bridge over one of the Dutch canals so asked our driver to stop and Misa and I went to take a look.

What we found was that not only did the bridge sway with each footstep but it was very rusty and the wooden boards were loose.  All a bit disconcerting, but on the basis that the locals use it every day we took our chances and crossed!  The late afternoon lighting was perfect for photography so I set the camera up to capture the mood and asked Misa to use it.  I like the result (even if I do have the lens cap in my pocket!) so share it above.

Below is the scene when looking upstream along the canal.  If I am correct, inland waterways such as canals in the UK typically have a speed limit of four knots.  Clearly not the case here from the speed of the approaching boat and the wake that clattered the moored boats for some time afterwards!
