Easter baking
Thursday 1st April 2021
Easter would not be Easter without baking typical Czech goodies and a chocolate egg hunt – it is a tradition in our family.
I made gingerbread cookies yesterday with my friend’s kids and today I baked two sweet Easter breads – Mazanec (Mazanetz). One for us and one for our next door neighbour’s family. The mummy is from Romania and she appreciates my baking as it reminds her of home.
The cookies were gone in no time, they were apparently melting in your mouth and this evening Misa cut the Mazanec and loved it. I have already made dough for two more to bake tomorrow morning before we go away for the weekend. I will give one to our Indian friend to experience Czech traditions and one for the freezer to have for Easter Monday.
Chocolate Easter eggs are stuck in a container at Heathrow airport. The container of the company I ordered the eggs from was too heavy to be loaded into the plane yesterday to arrive today, so they have to wait for the weekend flight. As Sri Lanka customer officers are not working during the weekend, it will be most likely cleared with customs on Monday (when I need them to play the Easter egg hunt) so we may have it delivered on Wednesday or Thursday. We may still play it and give kids a big quiz to find the clues where to look like last year. We will see.
We may go for Sunday dinner or Monday lunch to enjoy a leg of lamb if I can find where they serve it.
Happy spring time everyone.
