Motorcycling Memories
Thursday morning brought the pleasure of an envelope bearing Dad\’s handwriting that on opening was found to contain some very interesting reading material about a project that Dad was involved in in the past, and three motorcycling prints; one each of my grandfather and great grandfather on their machines and one of me on my Triumph Thruxton R 1200 with Misa pillion.
We much enjoy living in Sri Lanka and all the adventures we get to have, but one of the sacrifices outside family and close friends are enjoying my two motorcycles. The print that Dad kindly posted sent me back in a heartbeat to new year\’s eve at the end of 2018 when it was taken; outside Mum and Dad\’s home, Misa having been given his riding gear as a Christmas present a few days earlier. I can hear the lovely growl of two large cylinders, feel the pin-sharp handling and progressive brakes, and imagine the huge torque at the merest twist of the wrist. I\’d hoped to have enjoyed it on a trip back to the UK but Covid-19 had other ideas so instead it\’s my friend Tom who\’s enjoyed it, kindly taking the bike for two MOT tests whilst I\’ve been away.
In turn I then remembered a trip over to Mum and Dad in April, this time with Emi pillion and loving every second of the way.
Happy days of a different type.
